Hello Handshake

The hello handshake is the first application-level exchange on a new TCP connection.

The server listens on TCP port 43594. A newly accepted connection starts with a two-second read timeout. The hello message is an eight-byte frame, including the opcode:

Offset Size Field Meaning
0 1 Opcode Must be 12 (0x0C)
1 2 Protocol version Must be 17
3 2 Game ID Must identify a supported game
5 2 Server number The servernum applet parameter value
7 1 Language ID Zero-based language ordinal

An invalid opcode closes the connection. Once a handshake is processed, the connection proceeds to the init protocol state.
